Dr. Jose Toledo is a neurologist located in Stuart, Okechobee and West Palm Beach, Florida. He is a physician who evaluates, diagnoses and treats  disorders and injuries of the nervous system. Dr. Toledo’s practice  is dedicated mainly  to treat brain, spinal cord, nerves, and  and muscle disorder.  As a neurologist in Stuart Florida he manages long term care for patients who are afflicted with diseases and disorders present at birth or that have developed later on in life. Education and Training
In order to become a  neurologist, undergraduate premedical study  followed by 4 years of medical school is required. An additional 4 years must be spent doing a residency in neurology.  A total of aproximately 12 years of study and training is required, along with writing certification exams is required to become a certified neurologist in Florida.  Dr Toledo is a Neurologist educated and licensed to treat nervous system disorders, including diseases of the spinal cord, nerves, and  brain.

A Neurologist can perform CAT scans, MRIs, EEGs ( brain wave studies) EMGs/Nerve Studies and spinal taps.

What to expect from your neurological evaluation.
Your  neurologist will obtain a history of your main complaint,  perform a brief  physical examination and a detailed neurological examination. A  neurological examination includes  a mental status examination, a cranial nerve examination  a motor and sensory exam which includes checking for abnormal movements or twitching,  skin and muscle sensations, coordination  and the ability of the patient to walk. Based on your examination results  the neurologist may order additional tests such as a CT scan , MRI, EEG or EMG. In some cases Laboratory Studies are required.

When should a patient see a neurologist ?

Usually, a family physician , a chiropractor or any other specialist  will refer a patient to a neurologist if there is a concern regarding a possible disorder or illness involving the nervous system. Self referrals are welcome in our practice. If involved in an auto accident the patient is welcome to make an appointment without any type of referral.We see patients within 24 hours if requested.

Does Dr Jose Toledo treat children?
Certainly, depending upon the age and condition. We treat headaches and epilepsy  above 14 years of age and everything else above age 16. For other ages and disorders we recommend  to consult a pediatric neurologist who has received specialized training in pediatrics. Many of the concerns regarding nervous system health in children are diseases or conditions that are present at birth and need to be monitored over a long period of time. Such conditions include epilepsy, ADHD, autism, brain tumor,  developmental disorders, and mental retardation.
